Calculate Vapor Pressure
About Raoult's Law
Raoult's Law describes the vapor pressure of ideal solutions. It states that the partial vapor pressure of each component is proportional to its mole fraction in the solution.
Raoult's Law:
P_i = x_i × P_i°
Total Vapor Pressure:
P_total = Σ(x_i × P_i°)
Binary Mixture:
P_total = x_A × P_A° + x_B × P_B°
Where:
- P_i = Partial vapor pressure of component i
- x_i = Mole fraction of component i
- P_i° = Pure vapor pressure of component i
Assumptions:
• Ideal solution behavior
• No chemical interactions
• Similar molecular sizes
• Low pressure conditions
Applications:
• Distillation design
• Vapor-liquid equilibrium
• Solution thermodynamics
• Industrial processes
Raoult's Law is fundamental in understanding solution behavior and designing separation processes in chemical engineering.
