Calculate Molality
About Molality
Molality (m) is a measure of solute concentration expressed as the number of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent. Unlike molarity, molality is temperature-independent.
m = moles of solute / kg of solvent
Key advantages of molality:
- Temperature-independent (unlike molarity)
- Useful for colligative properties calculations
- Preferred in thermodynamics and phase equilibria
- Independent of solution volume changes
Conversion from Molarity:
m = M / (density - M × MW/1000)
Molality is particularly important in freezing point depression, boiling point elevation, and osmotic pressure calculations.
