About Miller Indices

Miller indices are a notation system used to describe crystal planes and directions in crystallography. They are represented as three integers (h k l) for planes and [u v w] for directions.

For Planes:

Take reciprocals of intercepts, clear fractions, and reduce to smallest integers

Interplanar Spacing (Cubic):

d = a / √(h² + k² + l²)

Interplanar Spacing (Tetragonal):

d = 1 / √((h² + k²)/a² + l²/c²)

Miller indices are essential in X-ray diffraction, crystal growth, and materials science for describing crystal structure and properties.
